Slow and Steady

Yes, it's been 2 years since I last posted here. Why? Well, part of that is writer's block, and part of that is due to simply being busy with life and a day job. I'm still not quite as famous as Stephen King or George R R Martin, and neither of them has responded to my email requests for charity funding so that I can quit my day job to write full time.

But, rest assured dear readers, I am making progress on the 5th book. It's taken awhile for me to find the story threads and start weaving again. Most of my writing over the last 2 years has been a few paragraphs or pages here and there, with large blocks of time spent staring at a blank page and then playing Candy Crush or watching Netflix. However, those few pages eventually added up the 100 page milestone, and I am currently in chapter 4. It feels good to finally have the engine running again, even if it's not quite at full steam.

I've also resolved to start posting here more often, even if it's stuff that has nothing to do with the series or my writing in general. I've been getting notifications on The Exxar Chronicles Facebook page that this site is getting more and more views. It's encouraging to know that I have readers out there who are checking in from time to time to see if there's anything new on the site. (And yes, I know, I need to finish writing that section on the Jha'Drok. I just hit some writer's block with that too, that's all.)

That's all for today. I'd like to finish a couple scenes before getting ready for work. :-)

Living In Outer Space

I subscribe to various news feeds and blogs on my Facebook, and this one today caught my eye.
http://gizmodo.com/are-any-of-these-fictional-space-habitats-actually-poss-1712585077

How scientifically plausible are the various outposts, space stations and habitats from our favorite sci-fi shows and movies like Star Wars and Star Trek? Of course, I found this particularly interesting because of my own series. When I was growing up, my favorite sci-fi show was Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. I imagined living on that station, walking on the promenade, watching all the exotic and strange alien lifeforms come and go, maybe even get a bite to eat at Quark's. I imagined standing at one of the large viewports and pressing my hand against the cold glass as the wormhole opened to admit a ship from the Gamma Quadrant.

Needless to say, DS9 was one of the primary inspirations for The Exxar Chronicles. Now, I imagine what it would be like to walk Exxar-One's promenade, or stand in the observation dome and press my hand to the towering wall of glass as the Erayan hypergate comes on line to admit a ship from a distant star system in a galaxy that's hundreds of light years away.

Although, I've also been curious about what daily life aboard the death star would be like - without Darth Vader and the Emperor of course.

The New Site

Welcome to the new website! It's still under construction, but I'm already pleased with new layout and design options. Weebly offers a lot more choices and design elements than Yahoo Web Design, and I can't wait to finish it. (Weebly is also a helluva lot cheaper!)

This post is mainly a test, getting a feel for the website and how it works. Now, back to work on the rest of it. :-)
